2021 Domaine Labry Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Rouge, Burgundy

André and Bernard, Sophie Labry’s grandfather and father respectively, have kept their place at the domaine with their initials forming part of the domaine’s name. One of the interesting things about the domaine is the fact that the majority of the wines are lyre-trained. According to Sophie: ”This higher training allows the vines to better capture the sun’s rays and the grapes to reach good maturity.” Sophie prefers to rely on observation rather than relying on systematic action.   Why do we like it? The 2021 is a great vintage for reds in Burgundy, but very very small in quantity, up to 70% lost due to frost during budding. This Bourgogne will impresse you by its complexity level with charming stem and liquorice complexity and ripe, lingering dark-cherry fruit. We thought we found something special here for the price and are delighted to share it with you! It wouldn't have surprised us if this had been a premier cru from a more auspicious appellation.
