By Francois' own words the Hure Freres Invitation Brut is meant to be accessible, not simple, but enjoyable. And I think he nailed it. It's fresh, nice light of fruit and floral with the more savoury developed characters from the reserve wine and time on lees. Highly recommended for the next time you want Champagne.
Blended from all of the estate’s terroirs and made up of a similar varietal composition as the vineyards: 40% Meunier, 40% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay. Forty percent of the blend is reserve wine, which is stored in a perpetual cuvée that dates back to 1982. Aged for 3 years on lees. Dosage is ~ 5g/L.
The Hure Family is a family-run business in Montagne de Reims. Brothers François and Pierre work under the guidance of their father Raoul. They own 10ha and also source Chardonnay from a further 1.5ha. Hure Freres eliminated the use of herbicides and adopted biodynamic methods in 2006. Each individual parcel is worked to its own program; something François learned while working in Burgundy.
Hure Freres Invitation Brut Montagne de Reims Champagne NV Wine Review
Roger Voss
“Based in Ludes on the northern slope of the Montagne de Reims, this producer's nonvintage Brut is cool, crisp and dry. Fruity with attractive apple and white stone fruit flavors, it boasts taut, citrusy acidity and can be drunk now.”
