About This Wine
Penfolds Bin 28 is a showcase for warm-climate Australian Shiraz – ripe, robust and generously flavoured. First made in 1962, Bin 28 is named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley always well represented.
Dry conditions in spring and summer were alleviated by rain in February and March and yielded concentrated, ripe fruit. The 1999 reds are best enjoyed in the short-to-medium term.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep red.
Nose: Fresh black cherry, dried plum, mocha and liquorice aromas with touches of cedar.
Palate: Good richness and depth with medium-bodied plum, blackberry, cedar and espresso coffee flavours and ripe, fresh tannins. Finishes gravelly and long. More elegant and muscular than 1998, evolving well and built to keep and improve.
