The 2003 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline is a legendary single-vineyard Syrah from the steep terraces of the Côte Blonde in France’s Northern Rhône Valley. Produced by one of the region’s most respected houses, this vintage of La Mouline reflects the heat and concentration of the 2003 growing season, balanced by Guigal’s hallmark elegance and precision.
Aged for 42 months in 100% new French oak, the wine is rich and expressive, offering a bouquet of blackberry liqueur, violets, smoked meats, espresso, licorice, and roasted herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied and opulent, yet remarkably smooth, with layers of dark fruit, spice, and savory complexity. The inclusion of a small portion of Viognier (traditionally co-fermented) adds aromatic lift and finesse.
Despite its power, the wine maintains an ethereal balance, with fine tannins and a long, silky finish. It is drinking beautifully now but will continue to evolve gracefully in the cellar.
