Founded in 1984 by Michael and Annabel Waugh, Greenock Creek has become one of Barossa Valley’s most revered boutique producers. The Roennfeldt Road Shiraz is its ultimate expression — a powerhouse of Barossa intensity, sourced from ancient low-yielding vines and produced only in the finest vintages. Deeply concentrated and profoundly structured, it stands among Australia’s greatest and most collectible Shiraz wines.
VineyardThe Roennfeldt Road vineyard lies on the western edge of the Barossa Valley, near Marananga, where deep red-brown clay and ironstone soils yield Shiraz of immense density and character. The dry-grown vines, many planted in the 1940s, produce tiny berries packed with flavour and tannin. The wine is hand-harvested, fermented in open vats, and matured for nearly 36 months in 100% new American oak barrels before bottling without filtration.
VintageThe 2005 vintage was warm and dry, producing small crops of perfectly ripened fruit with thick skins and intense concentration. These conditions gave rise to wines of extraordinary power, richness, and longevity — and the 2005 Roennfeldt Road Shiraz is widely regarded as one of the standout vintages of the decade.
Tasting NotesThe 2005 Roennfeldt Road Shiraz presents an impenetrable inky-black colour. The nose is immensely aromatic, revealing layers of blackberry, plum compote, dark chocolate, espresso, licorice, and vanilla bean. On the palate, it is full-bodied and opulent, offering waves of black fruit, mocha, spice, and savoury oak, bound together by immense yet velvety tannins. The finish is monumental—dense, long, and deeply textured—demonstrating both raw power and seamless integration after nearly two decades of evolution.
