95/100 — James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion · 2008 Vintage · Published: 20 June 2021
“Picked before the heat, the small open fermenters plunged every eight hours, with no additions, and matured in French oak (40% new), for 18 months. The light, clear red colour announces a highly fragrant red fruits bouquet, the supple, smooth palate flowing on convincingly, moving through to what may be a touch of mint on the finish, or maybe just the integrated tannins and oak.”
About This Wine
The Yeringberg Cabernet Blend is a classic expression of the Yarra Valley, shaped by careful picking, gentle extraction and extended maturation in French oak.
The 2008 vintage shows fragrant red fruit aromatics and a supple, seamless palate, with fine tannins and well-integrated oak providing balance and length. Elegant rather than forceful, it reflects Yeringberg’s traditional, restrained approach to Bordeaux-inspired blends.
About the Winery
Yeringberg is one of the Yarra Valley’s most historic estates, with vineyards originally planted in 1863 and revived by the Guill de Pury family in the late 1960s. The winery has long been recognised for producing classically styled, age-worthy wines with a focus on balance, structure and longevity.
Estate-grown fruit, low yields and traditional winemaking practices underpin the Yeringberg philosophy, resulting in wines that reflect site, season and a distinctly Old World sensibility within the Yarra Valley.
