The 2010 Wendouree Malbec is a rare and powerful single varietal release from one of Australia’s most revered and traditional producers. Wendouree is famous for its century old, dry grown vines in Clare Valley, and its Malbec is considered one of the purest expressions of the variety in the country.
The bouquet is intensely aromatic, showing ripe dark plum, blackberry, blueberry and violets, intertwined with subtle notes of spice, earth and graphite. The palate is rich and concentrated yet beautifully balanced, offering layers of dark fruit, chocolate and savoury spice framed by firm but refined tannins. Its depth and density are complemented by remarkable freshness and clarity.
Serving and Cellaring
This Malbec is drinking wonderfully now with decanting to soften the structure, but it also has the strength to age gracefully for decades. An excellent match with grilled lamb, venison, or slow cooked beef dishes.
