About This Wine
The first Springflat came from the winery block vineyard of approximately 2.5 acres, planted in 1988 on quartz buckshot clay soils. Production is around 2 tonnes per acre, with maturity of the vines contributing to depth of flavour.
The vineyard’s position provides wind protection but increases frost susceptibility. In frost-affected years, a higher leaf-to-fruit ratio produces wines of exceptional intensity, which led to the discovery of Duck Muck.
Additional fruit is sourced from vineyards across the Heathcote region, including sites from Colbinabbin to Mia Mia. These vineyards are typically over 12 years old, dry grown, and located on Cambrian volcanic soils and granite/quartz clay soils, contributing to complexity and regional expression.
This wine represents the flagship style of Wild Duck Creek Estate, combining multiple sites to enhance consistency and complexity.
