Awards & Ratings 97 pts, Robert Parker Wine Advocate 93 pts, Wine Spectator 93 pts, James Suckling 96 pts, Falstaff 93 pts, The Wine Front 93 pts, Jeremy Oliver 93 pts, CellarTracker About This Wine A benchmark of Penfolds tradition, St Henri Shiraz is a multi-regional South Australian blend that celebrates structure and fruit purity rather than oak influence. Made from 96% Shiraz and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine was matured for 12 months in large, seasoned oak vats over 50 years old — preserving varietal integrity while developing exceptional texture. With a drinking window extending to 2045, the 2013 vintage represents a bold yet elegant expression of South Australian Shiraz, highly prized by collectors. Tasting Notes Colour: Deep magenta with a purple core. Nose: Classic St Henri perfume of black jellybean, star anise, fig paste, dried herbs, and cinnamon. Notes of cured meat and brine add savory depth. Palate: Voluminous and textural — layers of blackberry compote, dark plum, and roasted game. A silky tarry richness balanced by mouth-watering acidity. Expansive, velvety, and beautifully integrated. Vinification & Maturation Varieties: 96% Shiraz, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon Region: McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Padthaway, Port Lincoln Fermentation: Traditional open-fermenters Maturation: 12 months in seasoned large oak vats (over 50 years old) Oak Type: American oak Alcohol: 14.5% Residual Sugar: 0.4 g/L TA: 6.7 g/L | pH: 3.62 Closure: Screwcap Winemaker: Peter Gago Ownership: Treasury Wine Estates Production Volume: < 24,000 bottles Vintage Notes A dry South Australian winter reminiscent of 2006 led to early budburst and a compact harvest. Low yields and warm, dry conditions produced Shiraz with strong tannin structure and deep, concentrated flavor — wines of great intensity and longevity. Drinking Window 2016 – 2045 Optimal maturity: 2025 – 2035 Food Pairing Ideal with roast beef, venison, or braised lamb. Rich fruit and savory complexity complement grilled meats and robust dishes.
