minor cellar scuffed labels
Crafted from a biodynamically farmed vineyard in Beechworth, Victoria, the 2014 Castagna Un Segreto is a masterful blend of Sangiovese and Syrah. This wine expresses the elegance of Italian varietals with the structure and depth of Australian terroir. The bouquet opens with notes of wild cherry, black plum, dried herbs, spice, and hints of cured meat. On the palate, it’s savoury and textured, with layered dark fruit, dusty tannins, earthy undertones, and a persistent, mineral-driven finish. A serious, age-worthy wine with finesse and personality.
About Castagna
Castagna is one of the leading producers of the Beechworth region.
In 1997, Julian and Carolann Castagna packed up their city life and moved into and caravan on a bare patch of dirt in the Beechworth region of north-east Victoria. Farmed biodynamically from the get go, the Castagnas planted their vineyard with a view to making complex Syrah in the mode of Cote-Rotie and savoury, structural Italian varieties that could compete with their European counterparts.
It's a wildly successful family business that they have built, with son Adam stepping into the winemaking role and a sea of adoring wine collectors awaiting each new release. Castagna wines are true wines of terroir. They taste of where they come from as do all of the great wines of the world.
