Wendouree Cabernet Malbec is based on rare 19th-century vine stock material including malbec plantings from between 1898 and 1960, which provide the wine complexity, interest and a variation of theme. After traditional vinification, maturation takes place in new (20%) and seasoned French oak. This is a profoundly individual wine with intense, bright fruit, underlying maturation notes and firm but pronounced tannins.
Critic tasting note: (2014 vintage) "Very much a polished, fragrant and slightly floral wine that has a violet-like edge on some very bright, precise and tarry blue fruits. There are also blueberries and blue plums, which meet with some attractive oak gloss and spices. The palate has a supple and gently muscular feel to it with a very even, focused and elegant style. Blue plums and cassis hold long, and there's some nicely balanced ripeness here. The tannins are glossy and snap into the finish. Power with grace. Balanced, deep and succulent. Drink 2022-2035+." - James Suckling
