Taurasi can’t be anything else other than Aglianico grape. Taurasi is in fact, one of the 4 DOCG areas of Campania. Out of the 4, Taurasi is certainly the best and most important. Wines are deep, rich and full bodied, with a lot of dark concentrated black fruit, dark chocolate, and a long lingering smoky finish.
For the Antonio Caggiano family it’s all about quality, elegance and long-lasting wines. The Aglianico is hand harvested when fully ripe, then is destemmed, crushed and fermented in French oak for 18 months, therefore a wine with plenty baking spice aromas. Cloves and nutmeg from the wood ageing alongside the native structure of the Aglianico give these wines an amazing ability to age ‘forever’.
Why do we like it?
It's a wine that has a deep cherry colour and glorious aroma of pure, wild, dark-red fruits. The fruit absolutely sings, it has super-fine and compact tannins, highly structured but with lovely black fruit and fresh bite on the deliciously dry finish. It has such a great ageing potential showing a long finish and lot of personality.
