The 2015 d’Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz is a striking expression of McLaren Vale’s old-vine Shiraz. Sourced from low-yielding vines affected by Eutypa dieback (the “dead arm”), this vintage offers a powerful yet balanced profile. The nose is layered with blackberry, plum, black cherry, violets, dried herbs, leather, and earthy spice. On the palate, rich dark fruits are supported by chewy tannins and a firm acid line. Hints of cocoa, pepper, and licorice unfold with time, revealing complexity and finesse. This is a wine built for aging, with a brooding character and great depth.
Serving & Cellaring:
Decant for 1–2 hours before serving with hearty fare such as grilled lamb, beef stew, or wild mushroom risotto. Cellaring potential extends to 2035+.
Critic tasting note: (2015 vintage) "A great opportunity to enjoy an aged release of a topnotch McLaren Vale Shiraz, at a price that many current releases exceed. Great colour here, despite the age – deep, dark reds. Notes of aniseed, tobacco leaves, black fruits, soy, espresso and chocolate are evident. The wine appears to be still very youthful and vibrant, and it seems to really need even more time, over which, expect it to continue to improve. An attractive wine, well balanced and with abundant tannins, all rather fine. Showing impressive length in a fine style, this still has a good ten years ahead of it." - Winepilot
