2015 Teusner Righteous Mataro 750ml Gift Box

$100.80
Righteous Mataro is back with the 2015 vintage – already catching the critics eyes with 90 plus scores and reviews from some of the toughest in the business – this rare vineyard comes through again. There’s nothing more Righteous than Mataro at its best. Call it what you will (of its 64 synonyms, it’s best known in these parts as Mataro, Mourvedre or Monastrell.) The mingling of this Mediterranean variety, with the Barossa landscape was nigh on Divine intervention. Here, its expression takes on the wonderous dark fruited characters and complexity of the best European example, combine this with a beautiful lift of Asian and North African spice. The palate’s medium bodied and perfectly balanced with fruit, acid and tannin - all seamlessly intertwined.   Varietal: Mataro Liquor Style: Dry Red Region Of Origin: Barossa Valley Country Of Origin: Australia Vintage: 2015 Alcohol %: 15.0 Standard Drinks: 8.9 From a single vineyard in Moppa, aged 18 months, 30% new French oak, and offered in the same heavy bottle as its namesake shiraz. This is reined-in, the sweet fruit expressive, a floral lift and a touch of eucalypt with savoury layers across the full-bodied palate of salumi, coffee grounds, wood smoke and iron. Certainly, it is rich and ripe but holds its 15% alcohol well, everything integrated .  95 points James Halliday winecompanion.com.au A super bold and ripe statement of intense black fruit and wild herbs, all wrapped in a swathe of dense, defined and rich tannin. There’s an earthy and almost inky thread here, too. Tangy finish.   92 points James Suckling  Biggest Australian Wine Tasting Ever June 26 – 2019
