96/100 — James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion · 2016 Vintage
“A 50/50 blend from the 1919 and 1920 Eastern Vineyards. Excellent colour, as for all the ’16 Wendourees. Bright, juicy plummy fruit with red berries also pushing forward; its lithe and sinuous, flying the flag of elegance high in the sky. The differences are of style, not quality.”

About the Winery
Wendouree is an Australian producer based in the Clare Valley of South Australia, known for the rarity of its wines, which are released exclusively via a private mailing list. The estate is more than 100 years old and has been owned and operated by Tony and Lita Brady since 1974, with the original stone winery still in use.
The 12-hectare vineyard is planted to old vine Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Mataro, and Muscat of Alexandria, much of it established between the late 1890s and early 1900s. Vineyards are dry farmed and handpicked, with fermentation using indigenous yeasts in open-top stainless-steel fermenters, followed by up to 12 months’ maturation in French oak. Annual production is approximately 2,000 cases.
