The Maurice O’Shea Shiraz is Mount Pleasant’s flagship wine, produced only in the finest vintages and named after the pioneering winemaker often regarded as the father of modern Australian wine. The 2017 release is drawn from the estate’s oldest and most historic vineyard blocks, including Old Hill (planted 1880), Old Paddock (1921), and Rosehill (1946).
This vintage shows a deep ruby colour with lifted aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, violets, and cedar, layered with spice, earth, and subtle graphite. The palate is powerful yet refined, offering concentrated black fruit, polished tannins, and vibrant acidity. Maturation in large-format French oak for 14 months has contributed balance and texture while preserving fruit purity.
Elegant, complex, and with immense cellaring potential, the 2017 Maurice O’Shea is a benchmark Hunter Valley Shiraz and a fitting tribute to the estate’s rich heritage.
