The 2019 Château de Beaucastel Hommage à Jacques Perrin is a monumental expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and one of the most revered wines of the Southern Rhône. Produced only in the finest vintages and in extremely limited quantities, this grand cuvée represents the pinnacle of winemaking at Château de Beaucastel and stands among the world’s most collectable Rhône wines.
The wine is led by a very high proportion of Mourvèdre, drawn from Beaucastel’s oldest vines planted on the iconic galets roulés soils, with smaller amounts of Grenache, Syrah, Counoise, and Vaccarèse completing the blend. The outstanding 2019 vintage combined warm, sun-filled conditions with freshness and balance, delivering exceptional concentration, aromatic purity, and structural precision—ideal conditions for a long-lived Hommage release.
Each grape variety was vinified separately using traditional methods, with extended maceration to build depth, colour, and tannin structure. Maturation took place over an extended period in a mix of large oak foudres and barrels, allowing the wine to develop complexity and harmony without overt oak influence. Beaucastel’s biodynamic vineyard practices underpin the wine’s clarity, energy, and sense of place.
The bouquet is profound and multi-layered, offering aromas of black cherry, blackberry, plum, and blueberry, interwoven with notes of dried herbs, leather, game, olive tapenade, spice, and earthy mineral tones. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and immensely concentrated, yet remarkably poised, with powerful but finely sculpted tannins, great depth through the mid-palate, and an extraordinarily long, savoury finish. Despite its scale, the wine retains freshness and balance, hallmark traits of Beaucastel’s greatest vintages.
Still in its infancy, the 2019 Hommage à Jacques Perrin demands patience and will reward extended cellaring over 30–40+ years. If opened young, prolonged decanting is essential to reveal its complexity and structure.
A truly iconic Rhône wine and a centrepiece bottle for serious collectors and long-term cellars.
