Description
Proud, majestic, complex, and exuberant — this is Masi’s “gentle giant”, a benchmark Amarone that stands alongside Barolo and Brunello as part of Italy’s aristocracy of great wines.
The wine is the product of Masi’s unrivalled expertise in the appassimento technique, where traditional Valpolicella grapes are laid out on bamboo racks during winter to naturally concentrate their aromas and sugars. The slopes facing the sunset (“Costasera”) offer ideal conditions: longer sunlight, reflected light from Lake Garda, and a milder microclimate that enhances grape ripeness and depth of flavour.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Very dark ruby red.
Nose: Intense aromas of baked fruit, plums, and cherries.
Palate: Full-bodied, rich and harmonious, showing ripe fruit with elegant hints of coffee and cocoa. Well-balanced and beautifully structured, with a persistent finish.
Food Pairing
Excellent as an after-dinner meditation wine or paired with red meats, game, quail, and richly flavoured dishes. Also outstanding with mature cheeses such as Parmesan, Pecorino, or Gorgonzola.
Winemaking
Traditional appassimento grape drying, followed by vinification in Masi’s historic Amarone style. Aged in oak to achieve balance, complexity, and longevity.
