2020 Mauro Marengo, Langhe Nebbiolo, Piemonte, Italy

Mauro Marengo is a small winery located in the historic centre of the town of Novello, home to historic wineries and prestigious producers. Mauro is the owner and has surrounded himself with his family, his daughter Daniele, has been given the winemaking part and is doing very well! The strong link between the terroir and tradition is the pillar of what the family believe in for over three generations. Only 11 hectares of vineyard in Novello and Barolo. They are known for only using native varietals such as Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nascetta. This 2020 was all harvested manually, maceration done in stainless steel to preserve freshness and elegance in controlled temperature for about 10 days. It is then matured for 16 months in cement to add texture and stainless steel. Why do we like it? My favourite red varietal still is Nebbiolo… They have such character and personality, plenty of tannins, acidity with sour cherry, strawberries, cranberries and a lovely gamy, charcuterie tone to it.
