2020 Niepoort ‘Vertente’, Douro, Portugal

Founded in 1842 in Vila Nova de Gaia, Niepoort is a historic Portuguese winery, now led by fifth-generation Dirk Niepoort. Initially a Port trader, it expanded into Douro still wines in 1991, acquiring Quinta de Nápoles. Dirk’s innovative approach blends tradition with modernity, earning global acclaim for expressive, terroir-driven wines from 25 hectares of old vines. He’s one of the absolute wine legends of Portugal.  Vertente Tinto pairs well with Douro’s rustic cuisine.
