Bottle size: 1500ml Original Wood Box Fragrant potpourri of aromas, rose petals and red berry notes, with a hint of China tea; the very essence of Pinot Noir. A classic iron fist in a velvet glove palate. A lush fruit driven middle, enveloped by powdery tannins with delicious flavours that dance delicately across the palate. Critic tasting note: (2021 vintage) "The Estate is the third tier pinot from renowned Bass Phillip. The top tier Reserve Pinot typically fetches prices similar to the top Grand Cru Burgundy. Intensely aromatic spicy plum and black cherry are matched with graphite notes from the powdery tannins. On the palate, the intensity uncoils layered, elegant flavours that run into a long, persistent finish. The estate label is the best barrel selection of the Leongatha vineyard. It rested for 14 months in oak barrels, 22% of which were new. It is unfiltered and unfined at 13.9% alcohol. Soils in the area are free-draining and mineral rich which can encourage high vigour. This, coupled with the region’s high rainfall, can lead to disease pressure; therefore, careful management of the canopy is essential. Owner/winemaker Phillip Jones’ meticulous management of the vineyard ensures the Estate Pinot Noir consistently expresses enchanting fruit purity, multi-layered complexity and a sense of place unlike any other in Australia.
