92/100 — Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion · 2022 Vintage (Published: 23 June 2025, Drink by: 2038)
“Deep crimson with inviting aromas of plum, boysenberry and black cherry fruits. Hints of baking spices, licorice, dark chocolate, violets, panforte, pan juices and earth. Plenty of depth to the dark and black berry fruits on the palate with fruitcake spice, fine-grained tannins and a brace of bright acidity as the wine fades.”
About This Wine
Charles Melton Father in Law Shiraz is made from Shiraz grown in Clare Valley, Krondorf and Lyndoch. The wine shows the traits of a richer, more traditional Barossa vintage, with depth, density and mid-palate generosity.
Tasting Notes
Lovely deep colour, with some purple vividness. The nose is a delightful amalgam of blackcurrant and licorice with some jubey sweetness in the aromatics. A rich, dense palate with excellent weight and grip, along with mid-palate roundness and sweetness. Showing the traits of a richer, more traditional Barossa vintage. Eminently drinkable now, but offering evolved characters through patient cellaring up to 20 years. Best accompanied by equally savoury and spiced food — chargrilled steak to complement the smoky edge.
