94/100 — The Real Review · 2022 Vintage · Published: 25 Jul 2024
“Light, bright yellow hue; lemon-curd, lemon-butter aromas, some baguette crust too, the palate refined and delicate, brightly fruited and precise, with high energy, a very dry finish and lively acidity that provides cut and length.”

“Pale straw with aromas of juicy white peach, nectarine and citrus fruits. Hints of clotted cream, lemon curd, vanilla oak, spice, nougat, white flowers, oatmeal and stone. It seems a little more expressive and creamy this year and that's just fine. It's still nicely focused and the characters are brought into harmony with a taut, stony acidity that provides plenty of drive and verve.”

“Aromas of lemon curd, white peaches, hazelnuts and wet stones. The palate is medium-bodied with a slight phenolic grip, showing layers of popcorn, nougat and spices with bright acidity and a mineral finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.”
92/100 — Robert Parker's Wine Advocate · 2022 Vintage · Published: 19 Sep 2025
“The 2022 Pipers River Chardonnay leads with a nutty, spicy nose, laden with crushed cashews, white pepper, green apple, scraped vanilla pod and brine. In the mouth, the wine is everything the nose has promised, with a creamy texture and lean, bright acidity. This is a classy wine here. It's sleek. 12% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.”
About This Wine
A winter of above average rainfall was followed by a cool, wet spring with late flowering. Warmer conditions returned in December, followed by a rise in temperatures in February with cool nights and dry conditions through to mid-May, resulting in excellent quality Chardonnay grapes.
This wine expresses fruit from the estate with naturally higher acidity, shaped by deep loam soils, predominantly older vines and a cool maritime climate. Basalt soils provide drainage and allow deep root penetration, contributing to concentration and elegance.
The fruit was hand-picked, whole bunch pressed and fermented in a mix of new and older French oak puncheons and a 700L ceramic egg, with lees stirring and malolactic fermentation to build texture and balance.
Producer Notes
Initial notes of grapefruit pith and lemon curd expand to lightly roasted nuts and nectarine. The palate is well restrained in its youth with a sense of energy and concentration that is tightly balanced with superb natural acidity and impressive length. With time complexity develops and the texture builds further.
