Crafted from a meticulously farmed single vineyard in Martinborough, New Zealand, the 2022 Aprentis of Devotus Pinot Noir is a pure, site-driven expression from one of the region’s rising cult producers. This small-batch release comes from younger vines adjacent to the iconic Devotus block, managed with organic principles and hand-harvested at optimum ripeness.
Fermentation is spontaneous using wild yeasts, with around 30% whole bunches to build aromatic lift and structure. It’s aged in a mix of seasoned and new French oak barrels for 11 months before bottling unfined and unfiltered.
In the glass, the wine is deep garnet with vivid edges. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry and cranberry are layered with wild thyme, dried rose, and a touch of forest floor. The palate is finely structured, showing silky tannins and a vibrant acid spine that carries flavours of red fruit, earthy spice, and subtle oak.
Youthful yet complete, this Pinot is elegant and energetic, with the promise of greater complexity over the next 5–7 years.
Recommended Pairing: Roast duck, wild mushroom risotto, or grilled salmon.
