ollowing the Serein River upstream past the famous grand cru slopes lies Fourchaume, the northernmost premier cru of the region, celebrated for its exceptional quality. This vineyard lends its name to nearby premier crus, including Vaupulent, Côte de Fontenay, Vaulorent, and L’Homme Mort. Interestingly, Fourchaume’s name originates from a poetic twist on “lime kiln” or “men’s fork,” echoing historic mysteries akin to the gallows. Stretching over 130 hectares, Fourchaume’s consistent terroir produces wines with remarkable complexity, openness, and enduring charm.
Within the historic Laroche estate, 2.44 hectares of 70-year-old vines enjoy southwestern exposure, shielded from northern winds. Vinification takes place in stainless steel and varied-sized barrels, with aging on fine lees in the revered Obédiencerie cellars, cultivating a rich array of flavors and textures.
From the first scent, this wine captivates with its intensity and concentration, offering an inviting bouquet of lemon and lime blossom. On the palate, it reveals refined bitterness and a rich, dense structure balanced by well-integrated acidity. Its elegant, lingering finish signals excellent aging potential. Perfect alongside grilled prawns or langoustine risotto, this vintage enhances any dining experience.
