2022 I Vigneri, Etna Rosso, Sicily, Italy

I Vigneri Winery, situated on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, is a testament to the rich winemaking heritage of the region. Founded by the renowned winemaker Salvo Foti, the winery is dedicated to producing authentic, high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of Etna. Utilizing traditional methods and ancient vine training systems, I Vigneri emphasizes sustainability and respect for the land. Their vineyards, planted with indigenous grape varieties like Nerello Mascalese and Carricante, yield wines celebrated for their distinct character, embodying the volcanic soul of Etna.  Why do we like it? The Etna Rosso comes from high density vineyard on Etna's north side at 700 m. The wine is a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Fermented by indigenous yeast without temperature control and bottled unfiltered. Quite concentrated, almost dark ruby, just as Salvo loves his amazing wines from the Etna to be. It shows a narrow orange-tinged rim with dried cherries, Asian exotic spice and rosehip tea. It’s super fine and savoury.
