97/100 — Halliday Wine Companion · 2022 Vintage (Tasted: 21 Feb 2025)
“The Koomilya shiraz trio tends to follow a similar pattern, showing distinctly different characters from three blocks in Upper Tintara so near to each other. The GT Block is usually the most fragrant, lithe and lifted and, while that is true, it is also true that this seems to have gone up in intensity and depth. The distinctive kelp, nori, dried violet and black tea notes are there, but there seems a deeper, more thrumming heartbeat this vintage, a core of dark minerals and spice. There's also tapenade, pomegranate molasses, a hint of musk, even. Tannins are expertly extracted and this is made for the long haul. Outstanding.”

About This Wine
A single block Shiraz from the GT Block, sourced from 35-year-old vines grafted onto Gewurztraminer originally planted in 1974 by previous owners Jill and Don Cant.
The vineyard is grown on ancient dark grey slaty siltstone laminated with ironstone, south-facing at an altitude of 116 metres. GT refers to either “grafted” or “Gewurztraminer”.
Tasting Notes
Flavour: Freshly tanned leather, vanilla, blueberry, pink peppercorns, black olive and cassia bark aromas. Fresh fennel on the front palate followed by milk chocolate, blackberry compote, violets and cherry cola.
Texture: Plush and velvety tannins, latent and flavourful, with a white-tea-like prettiness and remarkable length. Lighter in set than its siblings, showing a flighty, pretty profile.
Cellaring: Set up for a long life. Best decanted an hour before drinking.
