94/100 — Nick Ryan, The Australian · Sep 2024
“The McElhinney pinot whispering is clearly on show here. Sour cherry, rhubarb, some macerated strawberries and the straw they were grown in, a dusting of five spice. Sinewy and slightly sappy, a subtle underlying gaminess. An energetic pop of mid-palate fruit and a corset-like twist of grippy tannin.”
93/100 — Ned Goodwin MW, jamessuckling.com · Feb 2024
“Fragrant, plump, mid-weight pinot, exuding bing cherry, fecund strawberry and orange zest. Punchy and perfumed. A corset of tannin, a little drying, compresses the finish into a bow of savouriness. This should develop well. Drink or hold. Screw cap.”
About This Wine
Fruit from the Belbrook vineyard was supplemented by carefully selected parcels from the Coal Valley, Derwent Valley and East Coast. Parcels of Pinot Noir clones 777, 114 and D5V12 were fermented separately with small inclusions of whole berries and whole clusters. Matured for 11 months in 500-litre French oak puncheons (15% new) with minimal intervention before bottling.
