Appellation: Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru (AOP)
Varietal: 100% Chardonnay
Region: Côte de Beaune, Burgundy
Harvest: Manual
Terroir: Clay-limestone
Vineyard & Origin:
Bordered by Meursault to the north and Chassagne-Montrachet to the south, Puligny-Montrachet lies at the heart of Burgundy’s most prestigious Chardonnay terroir, home to the legendary Montrachet vineyards.
The La Garenne vineyard sits just above Les Champgains, on calcareous and marly soils with a perfect southeast exposure. Historically, a “garenne” referred to a walled woodland reserved for noble hunting—typically of rabbits—hence the term “lapin de garenne.”
Vinification:
Immediately after harvest, grapes are pressed as whole bunches in a pneumatic press. The juice is statically settled for 24 hours at 12 °C before being transferred directly into barrels for alcoholic and malolactic fermentation.
Ageing:
Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels (light “blonde” toast), 30% new.
Winemaker Notes:
On the nose, La Garenne reveals expressive aromas of yellow and citrus fruits. The palate is fresh, precise, and finely chiseled, balancing elegance with vibrant energy.
Food Pairing:
Pairs beautifully with poultry or festive fowl (duck, guinea fowl, turkey), fish dishes, and soft cheeses such as Brie, Camembert, and Comté.
Perfect pairing suggestion: Monkfish fondue with turmeric and coriander.
Ageing Potential: 7 – 10 years
Serving Temperature: 12 – 14 °C
