2022 Torbreck Les Amis Grenache 750ml

Grenache has been a stalwart variety of the Barossa for more than 150 years, ideally suited to the Mediterranean climate and ancient soils. Sourced from the revigorated soils of western Greenock, the concentration, poise and elegance of this single vineyard Grenache is perfectly balanced and characteristic of this unique terroir. Les Amis translates from the French as The Friends. The 2022 vintage was characterised by above average winter rains making up for a dry autumn, leading to full canopies and healthy vines for the harvest. A severe hailstorm across some parts of the Valley in late October resulted in lower average yields. The summer was remarkably mild with very few days above 30 degrees. Slow ripening in the cooler conditions made for gentle and drawn-out vintage season, resuleslting in wines with higher natural acidity, rich colours and fine tannins. The wines from 2022 will reward those patient enough to cellar them away. I've wandered these vines quite a few times with a Cooper's Pale in my hand; the vines are epic, gnarly old beasts, some of the best. Pure satsuma plum fruits daubed with souk-like spice along with hints of gingerbread, pomegranate, cola, char siu, biltong, dried citrus rind, some amaro herbs and an expression of blood orange. It's no airy, fragrant style.
