2022 Woodlawn Three Wishes Pinot Noir, Tamar Valley, Tasmania, Australia

Woodlawn Estate is a premium producer in the Tamar Valley, located in the north of Tasmania. The winery is led by winemaker Ricky Evans, who is also behind Two Tonne and Havilah Wine.  Known for single-site expressions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Ricky farms three family vineyards, emphasizing traditional methods and minimal intervention. His wines, vinified at the Woodlawn farm winery, reflect the region's cool-climate elegance and his innovative approach.  Why do we like it? The 2022 Woodlawn Three Wishes Pinot Noir, sourced from a warm, sheltered vineyard planted in 2000, features two clones: an upright clone and low-yielding MV6. Fermented with 30% whole bunches from MV6 for structure and spice, it matures 11 months in mostly second-use barriques, bottled unfined and unfiltered. It offers deep, wild cherry and blackberry flavours, with grippy but smooth tannins and spice, balanced by bright acidity.
