94/100 — Philip Rich · Published 18 March 2024
“A blend of 70/30 shiraz/touriga nacional. Matured in older French oak. A deepish and bright crimson purple. A gateway to the brilliant Dry Red No 3, this ain't no slouch with its appealing bouquet of dark fruits, black pepper and florals together with some touriga-derived ironstone. The palate is medium bodied and understated, with seamless tannins and a soft finish adding up to a great wine to drink now and over the next three to five years.”
About This Wine
A blend of Shiraz and Touriga Nacional from Yarra Valley.
Shiraz sourced from the Salamenca block planted in 1995 and Touriga Nacional sourced from a terraced block planted in 1990 and 2013. The area was reclaimed from encroaching bushland and dubbed the “New Territories.”
Matured in French oak.
Tasting Notes
The Shiraz brings an exotic floral fragrance coupled by a juicy expansive fruit palate and minimal tannin extraction. Touriga Nacional brings structure and spice to the blend. Violet perfume, juicy red fruits, berries and plums with a hint of aniseed. Fleshy, intriguing and spicy.
