The 2023 Chablis vintage began with a relatively mild winter, followed by localized frosts in late March and early April. However, these frosts had minimal impact on yields as temperatures didn’t drop as severely as in previous years. April’s wet weather replenished soil moisture, supporting the vines during the hot, dry summer but raising concerns about mildew, which required vigilant vineyard care. Ideal conditions in June facilitated smooth flowering and fruit set. Summer heat persisted into September, but cool nights preserved the Chardonnay’s freshness as it ripened to perfection. The Laroche harvest ran from 7th to 21st September, with meticulous attention to each plot’s ripeness. The result? A vintage of outstanding quality and quantity, offering expressive, bright fruit flavors and exceptional balance, echoing the 2020 vintage.
