Nick Glaetzer is from the Glaetzer family, based in the Barossa Valley, South Australia. In 2005 Nick, the passionate young winemaker, moved to Tasmania in search for a great cool climate terroir. He is the 5th generation of winemakers, and he keeps impressing everyone, not only for this great Pinot Noir, but also for creating the first-ever Shiraz in Tasmania. A real legend in the making and a range of wines we love and have always used in our careers since working in Australia.
This wine is called after the über 2001 harvest in Pfalz where Nick Glaetzer worked with the legend himself Egon Müller from the Mosel who makes some of the most precious and expensive Riesling in the world.
Why do we like it?
I love Riesling and this has always been one of my favorite made in the country! A piercing aromatic nose with some white flowers and tons of citrus. It has so much energy on the palate due to a massive acidity level but with sufficient fruit too. Lemon oil, orange peel, white peach, a salty tang and to finish a mandarin note. Maybe one of the best, young Aussie Riesling I have ever sample, utterly gorgeous!
