The story of Tiberio Wines begins in the rugged Adriatic region of Abruzzo, where in 2000, Riccardo Tiberio, stumbled upon an old, overgrown vineyard with Trebbiano Abruzzese vines, which were around 60 years old at the time. We have for you one of the best Italian white wines, tasted this year, nowadays made by Cristiana Tiberio, Riccardo daughter. Prior to taking over the family estate, Cristiana had an impressive array of winemaking experience, including Jacques Selosse in Champagne, Nicolas Joly at Coulee de Serrant, Egon Muller in Mosel! The winery is located in the rugged Adriatic region of Abruzzo, Cristiana’s 30 ha estate has fast gained a reputation for her unapologetic take on what the wines of her region should be. After she took over the estate in 2011, she decided to uproot the international varieties and to replace them with more local grapes.  She chose the use of massal selections from their oldest vines because over the years they found that their massal selections gave much deeper, more complex, and altogether better wine than those made from clonal selections.  Why do we like it? Working with very old Trebbiano Abruzzo vines, she has made it her mission to craft wines that display real purity and elegance with a very distinct character. The focus here is on combining indigenous varieties and unique terroir with state-of-the-art winemaking. The result is some of the purest and long-lived wines in the region, slowly gaining a reputation as one of Italy’s most iconic wineries. The Trebbiano d'Abruzzo shows a great dried yellow flower, ripe pear, honeysuckle and crushed raw almond character with a round texture and a light sense mineral.
