The 2023 Yarra Yering Pinot Noir is a captivating expression of the Yarra Valley’s cool-climate finesse, crafted by winemaker Sarah Crowe. From mature estate vines planted in 1969, this wine reflects purity, texture, and the understated power that defines Yarra Yering’s house style.
Tasting Notes
Beautifully aromatic, it opens with lifted notes of red cherry, cranberry, and rose petals, evolving into hints of forest floor, spice, and subtle oak. The palate is silken and finely structured, displaying layers of red fruits, gentle earthiness, and savoury complexity. Fine tannins and bright acidity carry the flavours through to an elegant, persistent finish.
Winemaking
Hand-picked fruit was carefully sorted, with whole-bunch inclusion tailored to enhance perfume and texture. Fermentation took place in small open fermenters, followed by gentle pressing and maturation in French oak barriques (25% new) for 10 months. Minimal intervention preserves the purity of fruit and site.
Style & Cellaring
A wine of refinement and poise, balancing charm with structure. Its delicate fruit, savoury edge, and textural depth make it irresistible now, yet it will cellar gracefully for 10–12 years, developing further complexity and tertiary nuances.
Food Pairing
Perfect with duck breast, mushroom risotto, or roast quail. Its silky texture and savoury finesse also complement Japanese-inspired dishes such as teriyaki salmon or miso-glazed eggplant.
