Vineyard & Terroir
The fruit for this Grenache comes from vines on an east-facing slope at Moppa, positioned at the northernmost tip of the Barossa Valley’s western edge. The undulating landscape is rich with ancient stone and red-brown loams, echoing the geological diversity of Greenock Creek’s vineyards at Marananga and Seppeltsfield.
Thin brown loam topsoils rest over seams of ancient marble and ironstone, producing low yields of intensely flavoured, small-berried Grenache.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested fruit is destemmed and fermented for 7–10 days with twice-daily pump-overs to extract colour and flavour. The wine is then basket-pressed into a mix of seasoned French and American oak hogsheads for eight months’ maturation before bottling.
Whole berries are retained in the ferment to add juicy red-jube characters, perfectly balancing the white-pepper notes from an unusually cool ripening season.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of raspberry and mulberry lead to a vibrant palate where bright red fruits intermingle with powdery tannins. The finish is bright, fresh and delicately spiced, showing finesse and purity.
