The 2024 Hughes & Hughes Pinot Noir is crafted by brothers Jonathan and Matthew Hughes at Mewstone Wines, on the banks of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, in Southern Tasmania. The brothers are seen as a dynamic Tasmanian wine producer. Known for their innovative and experimental approach, they source high-quality grapes from select Tasmanian vineyards, It’s another example showing the region's growing reputation for exceptional Pinot Noir. Why do we like it? Sourced from vineyards in the Coal River, Derwent, and Tamar Valleys, this wine is fermented in small batches using a mix of whole berry and whole bunch techniques, with natural yeast and oak maturation (10% new). The result is a vibrant, medium-bodied wine with bright red fruit aromas like cherry and strawberry, subtle earthy undertones, and a touch of spice from oak aging. Its high acidity and gentle tannins make it approachable yet complex, with a lingering, balanced finish.
