The 2024 Tyrrell’s 8 Acres Shiraz is a classic and finely structured expression of Hunter Valley Shiraz, sourced from one of the region’s most historic vineyard sites. Produced by Tyrrell's Wines, 8 Acres is drawn from vines planted in 1908, making it one of the oldest continuously producing Shiraz vineyards in Australia and a cornerstone of Tyrrell’s heritage.
Located on red volcanic soils in Pokolbin, the 8 Acres vineyard consistently produces Shiraz of moderate alcohol, savoury complexity, and exceptional longevity. The 2024 vintage reflects the Hunter Valley’s signature style, favouring perfume, earthiness, and structural finesse over overt ripeness or weight. Seasonal conditions allowed for excellent flavour development while retaining natural acidity and balance.
Winemaking followed Tyrrell’s traditional, hands-off approach. Fruit was hand-harvested and fermented to highlight vineyard character, with gentle extraction to preserve fine tannins and aromatic detail. Maturation took place in large, seasoned oak casks, ensuring oak influence remains subtle and supportive rather than dominant.
The wine displays lifted aromas of red and black cherry, plum, and blueberry, layered with classic Hunter notes of earth, dried herbs, spice, leather, and subtle savoury complexity. The palate is medium-bodied and finely textured, with bright acidity, supple tannins, and a long, dry finish that underlines its excellent ageing potential.
Approachable in its youth with decanting, the 2024 Tyrrell’s 8 Acres Shiraz will reward extended cellaring over 15–25+ years, evolving into a deeply complex and distinctive expression of mature Hunter Valley Shiraz.
A benchmark Australian Shiraz of heritage, finesse, and proven longevity.
