Elegant Geelong Pinot Noir with red berries, rose, spice and fine, persistent tannins.
Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2024 is the estate Pinot Noir from one of Geelong’s benchmark producers. Drawn from old vineyards on limestone-rich soils in the Moorabool Valley, it is a distinctive, characterful release shaped by low yielding vines and Bannockburn’s long established site. The 2024 vintage is pure, autumnal and savoury spiced, while Halliday notes a lifted, perfumed profile with red fruit, roses and a melange of spices.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Red fruits, wild hedgerow, roses, autumnal notes and savoury spice.
Palate: Light to medium bodied, bright and perfumed, with pure red fruit, fine structure and persistent tannins.
Finish: Long, savoury and refined, with bright acidity and lingering spice.
Winemaking
The 2024 Bannockburn Pinot Noir comes from vines planted between 1976 and 2007, with 20% whole bunches and 25% new oak reported for the vintage. The result is a wine that balances fragrant fruit, structure and detail, while Bannockburn’s old vineyards and limestone soils contribute purity and savoury complexity.
About the Winery
Bannockburn Vineyards was established by Stuart Hooper in 1974 and remains one of the foundational estates of the Geelong wine region. The estate’s Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines are among the oldest in the region, and its Serré vineyard is home to Australia’s oldest close planted Pinot Noir vines. Bannockburn released its 2024 estate wines as part of its 50th anniversary milestone.
Cellaring Potential
This wine is already highly expressive, but its bright acidity, superfine tannin profile and structural length indicate strong short to medium term cellaring potential, it should fill out very nicely over the next few years.
