Burn Cottage Pinot Noir is one of the few wines from Central Otago that I buy for myself. I feel that the wines add an extra level of depth and elegance compared to other producers. 2023 has all the hallmarks of this great producer: dark fruits, haunting perfume, spice and a touch of funk and earth. It changes in the glass and rewards viewing over time (3 nights for my last bottle). Drink it now and over the next 7-15 years. It'll be a lovely drink throughout its evolution.
Burn Cottage is a legendary producer in Central Otago. The vineyard is 24 hectares in the Pisa Range appellation. Set up with the intent of making top quality wine they brought on Ted Lemon from Littorai (If you know!) as a consultant and Claire Mulholland (Martinborough Vineyard and Amisfield) as head winemaker. These are wines with depth and longevity. A while ago now, I was able to taste a vertical over lunch with Claire, and it was an eye-opening experience to say the least.
