Domaine du Collier - Saumur-Champigny - 2019

The 2019 Saumur-Champigny is a vend vite, oublie vite vintage for its makers, who will remember it as a nightmare due to the tiny yields and arduous work they had to do to eke out just 6-7hl/ha. It is almost a reflection of the vintage in its challenging intensity. Painfully young, it is bright purple and remains a newborn in its expression, even four years after the few bunches on the vines were picked. It packs substance and rich concentration in its light-bodied core. The fruit is pure and sweet, reminiscent of black cherry, violet and black olive. A touch oaky at this stage, the 2019 has the intensity of fruit to allow this to integrate fully.
