Dominique Portet might’ve built his name on Bordeaux-style reds, but these days he and son Ben are just as dialled in with Pinot Noir.
This single vineyard wine comes from a cool site in Gladysdale – a quieter corner of the Upper Yarra that’s home to some pretty serious Pinot. The 2023 vintage was a low-yielding one, but the fruit that did come in was packed with brightness and flavour.
It’s a Pinot that’s all about balance – not too light, not too plush – just right in the middle with red fruit, gentle spice and super fine tannin. A bit of whole bunch in the ferment adds lift and freshness, while time in quality French oak has given the wine a subtle structure without getting in the way. It's silky and moreish, but has the bones to age too if you want to sit on it.
This is another very strong release from the Portet team.
