Rare single-vineyard Yarra Valley Pinot Noir of power and precision
The Giant Steps Bastard Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir 2024 is a flagship release from one of the Yarra Valley’s most distinguished sites. Perched high in the Upper Yarra with cooler temperatures and volcanic soils, Bastard Hill consistently produces wines of intensity, structure and longevity. This 2024 vintage captures the essence of the vineyard, elegant yet powerful, layered and cellar-worthy.
Halliday Wine Companion - 96 Points
No whole bunches and only MV6 from a south-facing slope at 400m, which has worked well in this warm year. A touch closed, this didn't need too long to open up, revealing a complex array of aromas including pure red cherry, sarsaparilla and spices such as clove and cardamom. Tightly wound, this is driven as much by the wine's very bright acidity as its superfine tannins. Give this some air and drink now or watch it slowly unfurl over time. Philip Rich
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Perfumed notes of wild strawberry, raspberry, dried roses and subtle spice, with earthy undertones.
Palate: Concentrated red and dark fruits layered with savoury complexity—think cherry, cranberry, fine herbs and hints of forest floor. Silken yet structured, with fine-grained tannins and vivid acidity.
Finish: Persistent, focused and beautifully balanced, lingering with spice and mineral drive.
Food Pairing / Serving Suggestions
Perfect with duck à l’orange, venison carpaccio, roast quail or porcini risotto. Also shines with aged soft cheeses or charcuterie.
