Iconic Eden Valley Shiraz with ancient-vine depth, spice and elegance.
About The Wine
Henschke Hill Of Grace Shiraz 2022 is one of Australia’s most revered red wines, presented here in a wooden gift box. This is a true flagship bottle, a single vineyard Eden Valley Shiraz drawn from historic, own rooted vines that have helped define Australian fine wine for generations.
The 2022 release is deep, elegant and remarkably complete, with layers of blackberry, blueberry, fresh plum, five spice, black pepper, violets and cedar. Powerful but never heavy, it carries the signature Hill Of Grace balance of intensity, perfume, fine tannin and exceptional length. Henschke’s own tasting note highlights dark crimson colour, blackberry, blueberry, plum, five spice, black pepper, violets, cedar and a palate of mulberry, dark forest fruits, star anise, fine acidity and layered velvety tannins.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Blackberry, blueberry, fresh-cut plum, violets, cedar, black pepper, five spice, sage and star anise.
Palate: Complex and beautifully layered, with mulberry, dark forest fruits, savoury spice, fine acidity and velvety tannins.
Finish: Exceptionally long and graceful, with lingering dark berries, spice, cedar, mineral detail and fine old vine structure.
Halliday Wine Companion - 98 Points
Australia's finest and most famous single-site shiraz. Incredible ancestor vines of 160 years of age are the heart of the wine, with additions of centenarian (100-plus years), survivor (70-plus years) and old-vine (35-plus years) shiraz; matured in seasoned French oak for 20 months. It's the aromatic detail, texture and elegance that immediately stands out with the Hill of Grace. Pure satsuma plum, blackberry and black cherry fruits with hints of bay leaf, mace, sage, Chinese five-spice, panforte, cedar, tapenade, black pepper, pan juices, graphite, dried meats and purple floral tones. The amplitude of this wine always amazes me. Everything just resonates perfectly; fruit, tannin and acidity are all in harmony and the arc across the palate is perfectly timed. Stunning. Dave Brookes

About the Winery / Producer / Region
Henschke is one of Australia’s great family owned wine producers, based in the Eden Valley and deeply connected to some of the country’s most historic vineyard sites. Hill Of Grace comes from an 8 hectare single vineyard Shiraz planting at Parrot Hill, near the historic Gnadenberg Lutheran Church, around 4km north west of the Henschke winery.
The oldest Hill Of Grace vines, known as “The Grandfathers”, were planted in the 1860s and are dry grown, own rooted, low yielding Shiraz vines. Only the six oldest Shiraz blocks are used for Hill Of Grace, and the vineyard is run using organic and biodynamic practices.
Eden Valley is one of South Australia’s most important fine wine regions, known for elevation, cool nights, ancient soils and long, even ripening. In Hill Of Grace, that regional character translates into Shiraz of perfume, precision, elegance, spice and extraordinary ageing ability.
