Joshua Cooper Wines - Early Release Pinot Noir - 2023

This is a beauty. Fine bones, structural pinot noir yet with a sense of hedonism, if that works. Scents of red cherry, rose hip tea, faint mint, some sandalwood notes, a bit of aniseed, garam masala spice and a whiff of blood orange. The flavour profile and texture is a ripper, tart cherry, some clove woody touches, a bit of curious, tomato juice going on but feels good, a lick of game meat too. Really fine tannin profile in a web, tightening gently and finishing with some crushed rock minerally charm. It feels light, bright and juicy, and it is, but there’s more to this. Cherry fruit and squishy raspberries doused in some woodsy spices, then along comes the fine acidity and equally fine tannins to make their mark.
