Nikka Coffey Malt is the result of a unique distillation
process in “Coffey” type column stills, which is normally
not used for malt Whisky production. Nikka Coffey Malt
is made from 100% malted barley, however, it is not
categorised as “malt Whisky” but as “grain Whisky” since it
is not distilled in a pot still. The Coffey Still uses continuous
distillation and was first patented by Aeneas Coffey in 1830.
Masataka Taketsuru valued the feature of this type of still,
which retains the flavours of ingredients and creates a
distinctive texture.
