90/100 – Whisky Advocate (Tasted Dec 2023)
About This Spirit
This 11-year-old single malt combines Oban’s rich, oily character with the tropical fruit and spice influence of ex-Caribbean pot still rum casks. It delivers a salty, sweet, and sumptuous profile at natural cask strength.
Tasting Notes
Review – Whisky Advocate (Dec 2023)
Himalayan salt bricks, ground pepper, grapefruit peel, and herbal notes with a hint of dairy toffee on the nose. Sweet tropical fruit flavors including mango, papaya, and lychee, followed by salted caramel, lemon bonbons, rich toffee, and long-lasting spice on the finish. Lime marmalade and a more oily texture appear with water. Oban signature notes remain, while the rum cask finish introduces new directions.
Producer Notes
Fresh aroma of a sea breeze with citrus and tropical fruit, accompanied by a dry spiciness. The texture is oil-smooth, with a sweet, richly fruity, and lightly salty taste that finishes with an insistently spicy beat.
