Flagship Australian Chardonnay with grapefruit, lemon curd, hazelnut and a long, finely layered finish.
About The Wine
Penfolds Bin 144 Yattarna Chardonnay 2019 is one of Australia’s benchmark Chardonnays, built from select cool climate fruit and crafted in a style that balances precision, power and detail. The 2019 vintage brings together fruit from Tasmania, Tumbarumba and Adelaide Hills, delivering exceptional tension, finesse and complexity. It is a tightly composed, age worthy Chardonnay with citrus drive, subtle struck-match complexity and beautifully integrated oak.
Halliday Wine Companion - 98 Points
57/32/11% Tasmania/Tumbarumba/Adelaide Hills fruit. Matured 8 months in 55% new French oak barriques. The tension, endurance and sheer molecular detail of Yattarna propels it to the pinnacle of Australia’s pointy chardonnay pyramid, and 2019 follows confidently in the hallowed footsteps of the sublime 2018. This is a vintage that demands a great deal of time to unfurl. Tight, compact, focused and immensely determined, it leads out in its virile youth with the finest struck flint and gunpowder. A pinpoint singularity of white-fruit precision focuses a laser line of pure white acidity that projects from its core through a finish of astounding line, length and promise. Powder-fine, crystalline minerality surges long and strong. Another epic Yattarna. Vintage on vintage, has Yattarna now ascended to become Penfolds' greatest wine of all? Tyson Stelzer
Tasting Notes

Finish: Exceptionally long and focused, with persistent citrus, savoury nut complexity and beautifully composed acidity.
Serving Suggestions
A superb match for lobster, roast chicken, seared scallops, creamy mushroom dishes or richly textured seafood. Its depth and finesse also suit more refined white-meat dishes.
About the Winery / Producer / Region
Penfolds is one of Australia’s most historic wine producers, established in 1844. Yattarna was first released with the 1995 vintage after 144 trial wines, with the Bin 144 designation reflecting that long development process. It was created to set a benchmark for ultra fine Australian Chardonnay and remains one of the house’s most important white wines.
Cellaring Potential
This is built for long-term ageing and should reward careful cellaring for many years. Penfolds gives the 2021 release a peak drinking window of 2025–2045, and Halliday has also highlighted the 2019 as one of Australia’s best wines to cellar. That makes the 2019 a strong candidate for medium to long-term development in bottle.
Collector’s Note
The 2019 vintage is a significant release, earning 98 points from Halliday and being highlighted among Australia’s best cellar worthy wines.
