I remember when this winery first came into the country. They were lovely wines then, and I wish I had given them more credence at the time. I was reacquainted with this brand after finding an older bottle on the shelf at a shop, and it was just so gorgeous over a couple of nights. Pierre Amadieu Roulpierre is 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah grown on stony clay-limestone soils. The wine is aged entirely in stainless steel to keep it vibrant and fresh. On first opening, the wine can seem a bit simple and thin, but it drastically changes with air and time. In a perfect world, you'd leave the wine in your cellar for 7+ years. But in this world, a vigourous decanting or a night open will also have the wine looking amazing. At its peak it is brilliantly dense, with Blackberries, plum, and liquorice. The palate is full and round and very moreish. Structurally it is quite firm but the fruit comes over the top to soak it all up.
Pierre Amadieu is a family-owned domaine established in 1929. Wines are made, matured and bottled on their Gigondas estate. The Amadeieu style is vibrant vibrant and drinkable.

"Generous black-cherry aroma is wrapped around soft tannins on the supple, full-bodied palate. Delicate baking spices and licorice. Long, mellow finish. A cuvee of 80% grenache and 20% syrah matured only in stainless steel. Drink now."
